About me

My name is Sherezade García Rangel. I am a Venezuelan writer based in the UK. In my work, I seek to explore the intricacies of human relationships, what hides in unspoken moments and the questions that haunt me. Firstly, I am a prose writer across short and long forms, and I also enjoy writing non-fiction. My practise also includes literary podcasting and podcast production.

One of the main themes in my work is the Venezuelan Diaspora and the effects of the complex crisis that enacted this displacement on Venezuelans at home and abroad. Work on this topic has been published in Wasafiri, Transnational Literature and Gutter Magazine.

Presenting part of my research on the Venezuelan Diaspora at the Migration Conference 2025 in the University of Greenwich, London. This was an amazing panel of creative practitioners!

Silence and how it appears and disappears in relationships is another of the themes I like to explore and work on this theme has been published in From Glasgow to Saturn, Alliterati Magazine, Miscellaneous: An Anthology Inspired by The Hunterian, Hwearf Literary Journal and others.

Demonstrating the use of some of the museum objects I got to work with during my residency at The Hunterian museum in Glasgow.

Sound is a big part of my life and this, alongside an interest in history and cemeteries, inspired me to remediate my prose writing and research skills and teach myself to become an independent podcaster. This wonderful first adventure is called On The Hill podcast, and you can listen to it here. I won an award-winning in Awenekter / Creativity in the 2020 Gorsedh Kernow Awards for this work and for producing it in an innovative creative collaboration. I am also the co-host and producer of the of Everyday Peacebuilding Through the Arts podcast, and co-host and co-producer of On Silence.

I got the chance to interview a guest and record a podcast in the studios of Siren Radio, dearly missed as is its team. It’s always fun to record!

I am the prose editor of tr. review of translations and have edited other students and department magazines in the past, including Alliterati and FalWriting. I love supporting other writers to gain publishing experience and their first publication credits. As editor in chief, I initiated collaborations between staff and students, including the beloved epistolary project and podcast, Nest.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing with 10+ experience teaching creative writing and English literature across Higher Education institutions and other channels. I approach teaching with a blended, multimodal and dynamic pedagogy and truly love to design new modules, courses and activities to inspire writers, support them to try new challenges, value their own voices and strive for excellence in their practice.

I worked with First Story and with some of our amazing students on a First Story Connect event where we got to host secondary school students from schools around Lincoln. It was a great time!

I love to learn and strive to actively do so. I have a BA in Social Communications, Audiovisual from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, a PGD in Photojournalism from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction) from Newcastle University, a PhD in Creative Writing from Glasgow University, and a PGCHE from Falmouth University. I completed my Aurora Advanced HE Leadership Programme for women in HE in 2022.
